7 Ethiopian opposition parties decided to merge

As a part of the recent reforms lead by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed exiled opposition politicians have been returning home. As a result, many opposition parties including those engaged in armed struggle, have returned home pledging to participate in peaceful political activities. In a meeting held this week, the Prime Minister met members of 81 opposition parties of opposition parties to discuss ways of reforming the country's electoral system. After talks that lasted for few months, seven of the parties which attended the meeting have decided to merge together in the hope of winning a majority of seats in both national and regional parliaments in the upcoming 2020 general elections, a victory that would grant them more authority to improve their rights.
