More details have been coming out about the state-owned Metal and Engineering Corporation's embezzlement. After a documentary on the company’s mismanagement and wrongdoings was aired on ruling party-affiliated media, the METEC scandal has been the talk of the town. The Ethiopian Attorney General Ato Berhanu Tsegaye stated that the corporation acquired five airplanes for 11,325,20 birr from an Israeli company, but the location of one is unknown and the other four have been scrapped. These planes have been in use for the past fifty years and have been prohibited from being used by the National Civil Aviation Authority.
In a news that was reported by Capital newspaper, it was said that the missing airplane was found in the compound of Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. The plane was registered by the name of Ato Yohannes Megersa, and after being prohibited from being flown by the Aviation Authority it may have been left there.
