Explosion intended to disrupt peaceful protest - Mayor of Alamata

In response to recent ethnic-based acts of violence across the country, there have been peaceful protests in different cities of Tigray Region. Axum, Adwa, Humera, and Alamata were some of the cities where the protests have been held. Participants have been asking for the rule of law to be respected. In one of these cities Alamata, three bomb explosions occurred at the same place around Ethiopia Hotel. The mayor of Alamata Ato Haftom Woreta told DW that Sunday's explosion was intended to discourage people from protesting and that earlier in the day there were flyers distributed in the city with a message to the people not to attend the protests. The mayor added that no one was injured in the explosion.
