Two mosques were reported burned down in Southern Gondar, Mekaneyesus Town yesterday after an argument that occurred at a local wedding party. The dispute started after guests noticed the paper confetti containing shredded images of Saint Mary. The decoration didn’t sit right with the Orthodox Christian guests attending the wedding. Mereja TV contacted Mekaneyesus Town Administration Public Relations Office for further details on the matter. The city's Public relations head Getasew Berhane confirmed the news and also said that things have settled now and the town is in a stable condition. The regional state has reportedly deployed a task force to restore calm in the town and then to identify the culprits involved in the burning of the mosque. Amhara Region Office of Islamic Affairs Head Sheikh Mohammed Hussein addressed the conflict in an interview with Amhara Mass Media Agency as to how the office thinks there is more to the conflict than religion and there might be political forces behind the attack.
