A public statement that was made yesterday appeared to be released by the Ministry of Defense turned out to be false. The statement which was circulating on social media said that former exiled political parties that have been involved in an armed struggle before being invited by Prime minister Abiy Ahmed to come back to the country and participate in politics are behind violence occurring across the country which cost human lives and damages of properties. The false statement warns that the government will no longer tolerate their actions and will take the necessary measures needed to restore peace. When asked about the statement that has surfaced yesterday Ministry of Defense’s Public Relations Head Colonel Mulu Moges has told Mereja TV that it is a false statement. It is known that fake news reports have increased in recent years and contributed to mass violence and deaths in some parts of the country.
