Former Ethiopian Airlines general manager Girma Wake spoke with Reporter Magazine on the fast growth of the airline. Girma Wake, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ethiopian Airlines, has 45 years of airline management experience in various capacities at the head, regional and area offices. At Ethiopian Airlines he served for 37 years in different management positions before his appointment as Chief Executive Officer in February 2004. Under Girma’s leadership, the airline transformed into a billion-dollar operation company, successfully realizing a five-year strategic plan. Ethiopian is today the most profitable airline in Africa and ranked 16th among the world airlines. On his interview with Reporter Magazine, Ato Girma was asked about how sees the growth of the airline after he left and if the rumors claiming that he was pushed by the current CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam to retire were true. Ato Girma said that he was the one who actually nominated Tewolde to replace him and is happy with the growth of the airline. He also said that disagreements between management and employees can be discussed and resolved.
