Appointed after the surprise resignation of former Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, Doctor Abiy Ahmed inherited a country in chaos when he was sworn in this April. The new Prime Minister has inspired a rare, renewed sense of national hope in Ethiopians around the world. Ethiopian prime minister Abiy Ahmed has overseen drastic changes that have reshaped the nation’s socio-economic and political trajectory. In less than a year the prime minister has taken radical steps aimed at dismantling the country’s troubled past and paving the way for a new future. It is remembered that the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), has been the organizer and leader of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), and has dominated Ethiopian politics Since the fall of the Derg in 1991. There is ongoing speculation that TPLF is not happy with the prime minister's reforms. BBC interviewed Getachew Reda, TPLF senior official, and prominent political figure, on his thoughts about Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Ato Getachew praised the prime minister for his admirable will and initiative to reach any decision. He also discussed what Ethiopia and Eritrea’s reconciliation implies for TPLF and what he believes PM Abiy needs to do to assure that he is a great leader.
