Ethnic violence led to arson attacks in Gondar

Ethiopia has been rocked with ethnic violence in different regions. The latest round of deadly ethnic violence in the country has hit the Amahara region. The conflict in the region has been going on for months. The conflict rose to another level when few villages in Central Gondar, Dembya Woreda had fire accidents. In the press release by Amhara Communication Affairs Office yesterday, Director Asemahegn Aseres reported multiple property damages and many people are wounded and displaced due to the fire. According to Ato Asemahegn, the conflict occurred between people from the Qimant and Amhara ethnic groups. Authorities blamed unknown forces who are working to create unrest in the area for the conflict. It was also reported that the forces behind the violence smuggled weapons including heavy artillery into the area for this purpose.
