Renewed conflict reported in Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions

The Oromia Government communication affairs bureau reported that there have been conflicts in Oromia, East Wolega Zone, and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions. The clashes occurred on the border between the central Oromia and western Benishangul-Gumuz regions and civilian casualties have occurred. In Benshinagul ethnic Amharas and Oromos have been repeatedly attacked before and thousands were compelled to be displaced and seek refuge in churches in Bahir Dar, capital of Amhara Regional state. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's push for reforms since coming to office in April has failed to quell ethnic conflicts.
