Many critics have often questioned the legitimacy of the faith healing churches in Ethiopia, characterizing them as exploiters of the poor. In Ethiopia, there are no clear rules governing the religious sector. Prophet Eyu Chufa who owns the Christ Army Church has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks. In a recent conference held in Hawassa, he was seen being guarded by members of the national defense force. The soldiers were wearing their uniforms and allegedly forced a man who had earlier said that Prophet Eyu Chufa paid him to act as if he was healed to deny his claims. On a show produced by the National Defense Minister, it was reported that the soldiers who guarded the prophet were not on duty and disrespected the law and are now in custody.
