(Sep. 30, 2026) – Mereja TV will hold a worldwide online symposium on Ethiopia’s current affairs on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The live program runs from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Viewers can watch the full six hours on the Mereja TV satellite channel. The same broadcast will also stream on YouTube, X, Facebook, TikTok, Rumble, and Mereja.com.
The symposium will address the current civil war in the Amhara and Tigray regions of Ethiopia. Those two wars sit at the center of the country’s present politics. Families in both regions are living with fighting, displacement, and interrupted services. A short news item cannot carry that subject, so the symposium will give it time, in the open, with more than one voice.
The first session covers war and security. It is the session set aside for the fighting in the Amhara and Tigray regions, and for what that fighting means for civilians still in the line of fire. The second session covers politics, power, and the possible transition of power. The third session covers the economy and daily livelihoods. It will look at prices, work, and the cost of keeping a household together during a long conflict. The fourth session covers diplomacy and the Horn of Africa. It will ask how neighbors, partners, and talks outside Ethiopia bear on the wars at home.
Panelists at the symposium will speak to war, politics, livelihoods, and diplomacy from different experiences. Names will be announced after the guest list is finalized.
Mereja TV is a premier independent Ethiopian television channel. It has been on the air for eight and a half years, since 2018. It is a consortium of several Ethiopian media organizations. The channel serves viewers in Ethiopia and Ethiopians who live abroad.
Membership helps sustain the channel. Mereja TV invites viewers to join for $10 a month by visiting www.merejatv.com. The membership supports an independent Ethiopian television service and a longer kind of program than a daily bulletin. The October 24 symposium is one of those longer live programs that is built for a general audience.
Ethiopia’s current affairs don’t fit into one headline. The civil wars in Amhara and Tigray sit beside questions of politics, daily livelihoods, and the country’s place in the Horn. A six-hour symposium gives each subject room.
