A free solo exhibition titled GEREZAT (ግርዝት) by Ethiopian contemporary artist Tewoldebrehan Kidane is open at Fendika at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Addis Ababa. It runs through Monday, October 19, 2026. The show opened on Wednesday, September 23, with a reception at 5:00 p.m., according to a listing reported by Tewnet.

Curators Hailu Kifle and Yoseph Sebioksa prepared the exhibition. Fendika Cultural Center and Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa are listed as joint organizers. Visitors enter through Estifanos Church, and admission is free.

GEREZAT opens in Meskerem, the first month of the Ethiopian year. Tewnet described Meskerem as a season of renewal for many Ethiopians, when the rains ease and Addis Ababa feels open again. It said the hotel setting places Ethiopian art where guests, workers, and city residents can meet.

Tewnet reports that Kidane is an Ethiopian contemporary artist and educator whose work connects ancient spiritual traditions with modern visual art. His training took shape during six years of intensive study in the monasteries of Lake Tana and Axum, where he focused on sacred art and cultural stories. Lake Tana and Axum hold deep meaning in the history of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Tewnet also describes Kidane as a mentor and the founder of a studio. It says Ribka Sisay, who curated a group show that included his work earlier this year, has described exhibitions of his work at international embassies and private venues. That group show, Elemental Motions, opened in February 2026 at Addis Cinema Complex Art Gallery. It included work by Abel Lemma, Simon Abrham, Leul Mekonnen, and Kidane.

Fendika Cultural Center is a meeting place for music, dance, and visual art in Addis Ababa, known for azmari evenings. An azmari is a traditional singer and poet who performs with instruments such as the masenqo. According to Tewnet, Fendika Art Gallery opened in 2016 and offers free exhibition space for established and new Ethiopian artists.

Tewnet reports that Fendika deepened its partnership with Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa after its original compound in the Kazanchis neighborhood went through major change. Fendika at Hyatt then became a key site for the center’s public events.

The exhibition stays open through October 19, and entry is free. The venue is Fendika at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Addis Ababa, with access through Estifanos Church. Tewnet’s listing does not give daily opening hours beyond the September 23 opening time.
