Gunshots heard in Bahir Dar

Bahir Dar, capital of Amhara region, has been witnessing turbulent days ever since the coup d’etat on June 22, 2019. The government has launched country-wide manhunt for those responsible for the attempted coup that took lives of eleven people including Amhara region president Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen. As part of the hunt, Amhara region police went to a kebele in Bahir Dar city know as Abay Mado to arrest a suspect on Sunday, July 14, 2019. However, the arrest didn’t go smoothly and gunshots were reported on the scene. Abay Mado is also the same place Brigadier General Asaminew Tsige, the man allegedly behind the coup d’etat, was killed in an attempt to arrest him.
