Despite the recent reform in politics, Ethiopia recently witnessed a coup d’etat on the night of June 22, 2019, that, according to the reports, squashed within hours. Since then, the country has been in tight security. As part of the process to restore peace, authorities have been arresting people that are allegedly connected with the coup. More than 300 people have been arrested in Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa while many are suspecting the arrests to be a way of suppressing political opposition. Addis Ababa Baladera Council members are among those who are arrested so far. Henok Aklilu, attorney and member of Baladera council, sits down with Mereja TV for an exclusive interview discussing the council and detainment of its members.
