Eskinder Nega, a renowned journalist, and human rights activist, called for a press conference on June 3, 2019, along with his colleagues to announce plans to establish Senai Multimedia, a privately owned TV station. However, Addis Ababa police banned the press conference organized at Ethiopia Hotel at the request of the hotel’s administration. Eskinder organized another press conference today at Hilton Addis Ababa for the same reason after receiving permission from the hotel’s management. Minutes before the press conference, hotel security, and police officers blocked the entrance, and the press conference had to be canceled again. There has not been any official statement given from neither the hotel nor authorities for the reason behind the cancelation.
