May 28 (Ginot 20) has been a national holiday in Ethiopia commemorating EPRDF’s victory in overthrowing the Derg regime. The day, advertised as a new era of freedom, is interpreted in many ways for all Ethiopians. After massive youth movement erupted in Ethiopia, PM Abiy Ahmed came to power on April 2, 2018. The one-year anniversary of the day was celebrated recently with a week-long celebration which many labeled it as Ginbot 20.
