ADP and ODP agreed to jointly run Addis Ababa

Oromo Democratic Party (ODP) and Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) reportedly sat down for a meeting at the Prime Minister office yesterday. Ethiopian Satellite Television and Radio (ESAT) reported that the executive members discussed core topics. The parties discussed particular issues that have become challenging for both parties as the country-wide reform has taken place.
According to the report, the main agenda of the meeting was the case of Addis Ababa. The chartered capital city has become the center of controversy over ownership claim. ADP released a statement earlier on the party’s stand concerning Addis Ababa. ADP stated that Addis Ababa belongs to all Ethiopians and is against the idea that any singular party’s claim over the city. After the meeting, ADP and ODP reportedly came into an agreement and decided to administer the city jointly. This agreement is expected to receive backlash as it contradicts the reform and the legal procedures for chartered cities since it didn’t take account for the residents’ view on the matter.
