Two mosques burned down in Southern Gondar yesterday after an argument at a wedding party. The dispute started after guests noticed the paper confetti containing shredded images of Saint Mary. The decoration didn’t sit right with the Orthodox Christian guests attending the wedding.
Mereja TV contacted Mekaneyesus Town Administration Public Relations Office for further details on the matter. PR Head Getasew Berhane confirmed the news and also said that all is good and the town is stable. Amhara Region Office of Islamic Affairs Head Sheikh Mohammed Hussein addressed the conflict in an interview with Amhara Mass Media Agency as to how the office thinks there is more to the conflict than religion.
