Seeing street kids sniffing glue in the streets of Addis Ababa is common next to the magnificent buildings. More than half a million street kids are found in Ethiopia and the majority are found in Addis Ababa. The kids’ age range from 10 – 20 years old. There are so many reasons as to why these kids joined the street. Aside from poverty, the major reason, children are forced to work on the streets because of family disintegration, abuse, neglect by parents, displacement due to drought, famine, and war.

If one takes the main streets of Addis, they can see kids sniffing small plastic containers filled with glue. The glue, originally manufactured for apparel and upholstery productions, is popular among street kids for the hallucinogenic effects. Almost all street kids are hooked on glue and they are prone to mental and physical health issues. Mereja TV took the streets to address the lives of children living on the main streets of Addis Ababa.
