The tension in Dire Dawa increased day by day. The conflict that began on Monday, January 21 after Orthodox Epiphany ceremony escalated to protests for good governance in the city. The city was in turmoil yesterday: gunshots heard and properties burned down. After the protest, Mayor Ibrahim Osman asked for mediation with representatives of the community today but failed. Movement in the city is limited because of blocked roads. Many are asking what the real agenda behind the protests is.
