The United Nations (UN) has expressed its support for Ethiopia’s new law which grants refugees in the country more rights. The law, which was passed by Ethiopia’s parliament last week, gives refugees the right to work, school and to travel.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, said Ethiopia’s new law is a model that other refugee-hosting nations should emulate.
“The passage of this historic law represents a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s long history of welcoming and hosting refugees from across the region for decades,” Grandi said in a statement released on Friday.
