From Anglo-Norman vintage < Old French vendage, (cognate with French vendange) < Latin vīndēmia (“a gathering of grapes, vintage”) < vīnum (“wine”) + dēmō (“take off or away, remove”) < de (“of; from, away from”) + emō (“acquire, obtain”).
