If you&#8217;ve never been to NAB, it&#8217;s like a behind-the-scenes-version of CES, filled with the biggest, baddest, most-expensive television and movie-production equipment you&#8217;ve ever seen.<\/p> <p>The big thing this year &#8212; 4K television. Here are a few factoids that Roberts, clearly having been educated by his peers in the Sony family, shared:<\/p> <ul> <li>The storage footprint of 1 hour of 4K video is 512 gigabytes.<\/li> <li>That&#8217;s a lot of data to move across IP, so 4k cameras just send everything straight to production storage systems over fiber-optic cable.<\/li> <li>The picture is so detailed that it&#8217;s difficult for one person to shoot scenes and focus at the same time. The answer: new two-person camera setups where one guy shoots and the other stands next to him focusing the shot on a larger screen.<\/li> <\/ul> <p>Oh, and there were drones, too:<\/p> <div id=\"attachment_629422\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 718px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/gigaom2.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/20130409_122436.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" alt=\"The Schiebel Camcopter S-100.\" src=\"http:\/\/gigaom2.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/20130409_122436.jpg?w=708&#038;h=531&#038;fit=708%2C531&#038;resize=708%2C531\" width=\"708\" height=\"531\" class=\"size-large wp-image-629422\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Schiebel Camcopter S-100.<\/p><\/div> <p>This is the civilian version of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.schiebel.net\/\">Schiebel<\/a> Camcopter S-100. There&#8217;s a military version, too.
