The company has <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/2011\/11\/17\/an-amazon-smartphone-it-could-happen-next-year-analyst-says\/\">long been rumored to be developing a smartphone<\/a> that will run a heavily customized version of <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/tag\/android\">Android<\/a>, similar to its <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/tag\/kindle-fire\">Kindle Fire<\/a> tablets. Earlier rumors indicated that Amazon was planning to release the device <a href=\"http:\/\/bgr.com\/2012\/12\/17\/amazon-kindle-phone-release-date-rumor-256381\/\">in the second quarter of 2013<\/a>, however manufacturing hiccups have reportedly caused the smartphone to be delayed until later this year. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitimes.com\/news\/a20130311PD203.html\">According to <em>Digitimes<\/em><\/a>, issues relating to the device's mobile platform will see Amazon miss its original June timeframe for the launch.
