The world’s smallest precision-built\u00a0transistor<\/a> — aquantum dot<\/a> of just seven phosphorus atoms in a single\u00a0silicon<\/a> crystal — has been created by scientists from the UNSW Centre for Quantum\u00a0Computer<\/a> Technology<\/a> and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.<\/p>\n

At present, the length of a\u00a0commercial<\/a> transistor<\/a> gate is about 40 nanometers (billionths of a metet). The new\u00a0device<\/a> has features about 10 times smaller at 4 nanometers.<\/p>\n
