{"id":728785,"date":"2010-05-18T09:23:43","date_gmt":"2010-05-18T13:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"tag:consumerist.com,2010:\/\/1.10005858"},"modified":"2010-05-18T09:24:43","modified_gmt":"2010-05-18T13:24:43","slug":"customer-says-supermarket-sold-rotten-chicken-with-new-sell-by-date","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/728785","title":{"rendered":"Customer Says Supermarket Sold Rotten Chicken With New Sell By Date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/consumerist.com\/assets_c\/2010\/05\/051810-002-chicken-thumb-300x198-40451.jpg?w=780\">         <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/consumerist.com\/assets_c\/2010\/05\/051810-002-key-food-chicken-sell-by-date-thumb-500x375-40450.jpg?w=780\">         <\/p>\n<p>A woman in Brooklyn has accused a local grocery store of slapping a new &#8220;sell by&#8221; sticker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/stories\/33\/21\/bh_keyfoodfowl_2010_05_21_bk.html\" >over an expired one<\/a> in order to unload some old poultry that was past its prime. <\/p>\n<p>She told the The Brooklyn Paper:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I got it home [on May 12], cut off the wrapping and smelled something wrong immediately,&#8221; Viljoen told us. &#8220;The &#8216;sell by&#8217; date on the label said May 16. &#8230; But the dopes left the original &#8216;sell by&#8217; sticker underneath it: May 5.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"051810-002-key-food-chicken-sell-by-date.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/consumerist.com\/2010\/05\/18\/051810-002-key-food-chicken-sell-by-date.jpg?resize=500%2C375\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center; display: block; margin: 0 auto 20px;\" \/><br clear=\"all\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The store, a Key Foods supermarket, received poor marks in April from state inspectors, but a more recent inspection turned up nothing suspect. That may be why the store manager felt bold enough to tell the Brooklyn Paper that the customer was just a gold digger:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;People try to make money that way,&#8221; said Manager Edwin Rodriguez. &#8220;It&#8217;s absolutely not true. The inspector came in the next day, and everything&#8217;s fine.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynpaper.com\/stories\/33\/21\/bh_keyfoodfowl_2010_05_21_bk.html\" >&#8220;Unfair fowl!
