{"id":718350,"date":"2010-04-15T19:43:45","date_gmt":"2010-04-15T23:43:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.personalliberty.com\/liberty\/omega-3-deficiency-may-result-in-temporary-male-infertility\/"},"modified":"2010-04-15T19:43:45","modified_gmt":"2010-04-15T23:43:45","slug":"omega-3-deficiency-may-result-in-temporary-male-infertility","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/718350","title":{"rendered":"Omega-3 Deficiency May Result In Temporary Male Infertility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pictures.directnews.co.uk\/liveimages\/Vitamins_1961_19724780_0_0_4001983_300.jpg?w=780\" alt=\"Omega-3 deficiency may result in temporary male infertility\" align=\"right\" class=\"post_image\">According to a recent University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign study, consuming foods high in omega-3 fatty acids may help treat temporary male infertility. <\/p>\n<p>In the study, a group of investigators led Manabu Nakamura, an associate professor of food science and human nutrition at the university, used a mouse model to examine the role that omega-3 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) plays in male fertility. <\/p>\n<p>After depriving the subjects of DHA by shutting off a gene responsible for the creation of the enzyme, the researchers found that mice produced fewer sperm. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;We looked at sperm count, shape, and motility and tested the breeding success rate, and the mice lacking DHA simply were not able to breed,&quot; said Manuel Roqueta-Rivera, a doctoral student who also worked on the study. <\/p>\n<p>However, once the mice were fed a diet high in omega-3 fatty acids, their fertility was quickly restored.<\/p>\n<p>Dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids include vegetable oil, canola oil, flaxseed and English walnuts.
