Europe former Managing Director Toby Coppel is joining\u00a0Richard Branson&#8217;s cleantech-focused private equity fund Virgin Green Fund as a partner in London. The move is yet another indication of how <a href=\"http:\/\/greenenergyreporter.com\/2010\/03\/tony-fadell-godfather-of-the-ipod-turning-to-cleantech\/\" >straight technologists are going green<\/a> and heading to cleantech ventures.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-7480\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As chief strategy officer of\u00a0Yahoo\u2019s European unit Coppel oversaw $5 billion of acquisitions, including the $1 billion investment in Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce site.<\/p>\n<p>On joining Virgin Green, Coppell said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>[Virgin Green] It is the perfect platform for me to leverage my investment and operating experience in technology, media and communications to identify and manage attractive investment opportunities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Coppel stepped down from Yahoo! in December 2008. Since leaving he&#8217;s joined a number of corporate board.
