{"id":702375,"date":"2010-03-26T10:24:53","date_gmt":"2010-03-26T14:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef0133ec3c2cae970b"},"modified":"2010-03-26T10:24:53","modified_gmt":"2010-03-26T14:24:53","slug":"hollywood-gang-spreading-heroin-in-glendale-la-crescenta-police-chief-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/702375","title":{"rendered":"Hollywood gang spreading heroin in Glendale, La Crescenta, police chief says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" align=\"left\" hspace=\"10\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.ci.glendale.ca.us\/police\/images\/DePompa_Ronald.jpg?w=780\" style=\"WIDTH: 129px; HEIGHT: 181px\" vspace=\"5\"><\/img><span>Authorities say they are growing increasingly concerned over heroin use in the La Crescenta and northern Glendale areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><span>A Hollywood-based gang has played a major role in supplying heroin to the area, <\/span><span>Glendale Police Chief Ron De Pompa <\/span><span>told the News-Press.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Gang members have allegedly given free samples of heroin to teens and taught them to smoke the drug to increase their client base, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>All drug-related offenses in January investigated by Glendale police in the Crescenta Valley were attributed to heroin, an increasingly popular opiate among youth in the region, De Pompa said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Heroin use has been escalating in the Crescenta Valley in the last five years as more high school students and young adults have become hooked, he said during a presentation to the City Council on drug use in northern Glendale.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cFor years and years, La Crescenta seemed to be untouched by a lot of the big-city ailments that we started experiencing in the rest of the community, and we are starting to see a change in that now,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glendalenewspress.com\/articles\/2010\/03\/26\/publicsafety\/gnp-drugs032510.txt\">Read the full story here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8212; Veronica Rocha, News-Press<\/p>\n<p><span><em>Photo: Glendale Police Chief Ron De Pompa.
