Sure, there are plenty of good reasons for this besides <a class=\"autolink\" title=\"Click here to read more posts tagged #guitarhero\" href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/tag\/guitarhero\/\">Guitar Hero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since Microsoft Research is so into &#8220;natural user interfaces,&#8221; they showed off this one, called <a href=\"http:\/\/research.microsoft.com\/en-us\/um\/redmond\/groups\/cue\/muci\/\">muscle-computer interface<\/a>. It senses the movement of your extremities by tracing electrical activity within the muscles using a usually medical technique called electromyography. They&#8217;ve tried it in situations where users are engaged in physical exercise or have their hands full, like when bringing groceries to the car. They also connected it to <a class=\"autolink\" title=\"Click here to read more posts tagged #airguitarhero\" href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/tag\/airguitarhero\/\">Air Guitar Hero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/03\/guitar_muci.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/03\/500x_guitar_muci.jpg?w=500\" class=\"left image500\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Natal is going to be really good for kicking and punching, but that camera array isn&#8217;t set up for fine fretwork. I am not saying that this system is going to ever see the light of day, or that their ultimate purpose is ever-better air guitar. Still, it&#8217;s nice to know that at least some of the $9 billion Microsoft spends on its research division every year may solve this dilemma.
