Researchers at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umich.edu\/\">University of Michigan<\/a> are trying to make it easy for amputees to move around normally by recycling the kinetic energy generated while walking. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.instablogsimages.com\/images\/2010\/02\/18\/prosthetic-foot_2_jX9sb_69.jpg?w=780\" alt=\"prosthetic foot_2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Normally energy is dissipated during walking and the ankle restores the energy during push-off, but typical prosthetic feet cannot mimic the ankle\u2019s push-off, making the limbs feel heavy. The newly developed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plosone.org\/article\/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0009307\">prototype<\/a> mimics the ankle by recycling kinetic energy and storing it in a small battery, which is then used to power a simple motor that consumes less than one watt of power.
