{"id":661053,"date":"2010-02-10T22:01:27","date_gmt":"2010-02-11T03:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.personalliberty.com\/liberty\/obama-invites-gop-to-join-healthcare-talks\/"},"modified":"2026-10-04T10:28:47","modified_gmt":"2026-10-04T14:28:47","slug":"obama-invites-gop-to-join-healthcare-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/661053","title":{"rendered":"Obama Invites GOP To Join Healthcare Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pictures.directnews.co.uk\/liveimages\/Barack%2BObama_1961_19603946_0_0_7051789_300.jpg?w=780\" alt=\"Obama invites GOP to join healthcare talks\" align=\"right\" class=\"post_image\">In a CBS interview with Katie Couric on Sunday, President Obama attempted to breathe life into the stalled healthcare debate by inviting congressional Republicans and Democrats to a summit meeting on Feb. 25.<\/p>\n<p>Obama, who has recently been accused of leading a partisan effort to push healthcare reform through behind closed doors, is being forced to talk compromise after the Democrats lost a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate following a special election victory by Republican Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;I want to come back and have a large meeting, Republicans and Democrats, to go through systematically all the best ideas that are out there and move it forward,&quot; said the president.<\/p>\n<p>While GOP leaders plan on accepting Obama&#8217;s invitation, they also demand that the president and other Democrats be willing to completely replace the proposed healthcare bill.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If we are to reach a bipartisan consensus, the White House can start by shelving the current health spending bill,&quot; said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, quoted by <i>Fox News<\/i>. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a White House aide said on Sunday that the president does not plan to start from scratch regarding healthcare reform and that the Democrats will be &quot;coming in with [their] plan,&quot; according to <i>The Wall Street Journal<\/i>. <br \/><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"ADNFCR-1961-ID-19603946-ADNFCR\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/feeds.directnews.co.uk\/feedtrack\/justcopyright.gif?w=780\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In a CBS interview with Katie Couric on Sunday, President Obama attempted to breathe life into the stalled healthcare debate by inviting congressional Republicans and Democrats to a summit meeting on Feb. 25.
