{"id":660843,"date":"2010-02-10T11:52:13","date_gmt":"2010-02-10T16:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/food-and-more\/?p=2420"},"modified":"2010-02-10T11:52:13","modified_gmt":"2010-02-10T16:52:13","slug":"my-life-as-an-honorary-canadian-red-river-cereal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/660843","title":{"rendered":"My life as an honorary Canadian: Red River Cereal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2421\" title=\"photo-1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/blogs.ajc.com\/food-and-more\/files\/2010\/02\/110-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300\" alt=\"photo-1\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>Being the plus-one in my wife&#8217;s Canadian family has its advantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I know what curling is and can speak with authority when the Winter Olympics start.<\/li>\n<li>I get <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ajc.com\/food-and-more\/2010\/01\/06\/g-mas-butter-tarts\/\">butter tarts<\/a> at Christmas.<\/li>\n<li>Exciting new North Country foods come to my attention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To wit: My brother- and sister-in-law were waxing nostalgic over the holidays about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canadasfood.com\/product_info.php?products_id=14\"><strong>Red River Cereal<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; a hot breakfast they both love and my wife dismisses as vile, mushy porridge that she was happy to leave behind, along with Ontario winters.<\/p>\n<p>Well, not only has winter followed her to Georgia this year, but we also got a box of Red River mailed to us, courtesy of our relatives.<\/p>\n<p>LOVED it. Seriously &#8212; this nut-brown cereal cooks up quickly and contains nothing but cracked wheat, rye and flax seed. It cooks up like oatmeal, but naturally sweeter and more interesting. Add a little milk and brown sugar or maple syrup, and it&#8217;s a fantastic and healthy breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Does anyone know where to get this in Atlanta, or do I have to write away <a &#0133;<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Being the plus-one in my wife&#8217;s Canadian family has its advantages: I know what curling is and can speak with authority when the Winter Olympics start.
