\"\"To recognize February as American Heart Month<\/em>, the McHenry County Department of Health is offering a cardiovascular screening Feb. 18.<\/p>\n

The screening will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.<\/p>\n

The screening requires a 12-hour fast and includes total cholesterol (HDL and LDL), fasting blood sugar, triglycerides, blood pressure and cardiovascular education. <\/span><\/p>\n

A new offering this year is a body composition analysis.<\/p>\n

Appointments are required, and the cost is $35.<\/p>\n

Each year, more Illinoisans die from heart disease than from cancer, unintentional injuries, lung disease, pneumonia, influenza and diabetes combined, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.<\/p>\n

Age, gender and family history are risk factors beyond our control.<\/p>\n

However, changes in lifestyle and early treatment for risk factors, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, obesity, lack of exercise and poor nutrition can have a significant impact.<\/p>\n
