{"id":649339,"date":"2010-01-31T14:04:48","date_gmt":"2010-01-31T19:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/knowledgeproblem.com\/?p=6344"},"modified":"2010-01-31T14:04:48","modified_gmt":"2010-01-31T19:04:48","slug":"boudreaux-on-populism-and-corporatist-capitalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/649339","title":{"rendered":"Boudreaux on populism and corporatist capitalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='snap_preview'><\/p>\n<p><em>Lynne Kiesling<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just a quick note to bring your attention to, and endorse, the point <a href=\"http:\/\/cafehayek.com\/2010\/01\/dont-throw-me-into-that-briar-patch.html\" >Don Boudreaux made in a recent letter to the editor of the <em>Washington Post<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To the extent that trade \u2013 both national and international \u2013 is restricted, incumbent capitalists are shielded from what <a href=\"http:\/\/www.econlib.org\/library\/Enc\/bios\/Schumpeter.html\">Joseph Schumpeter<\/a> called the \u201cgale of creative destruction.\u201d\u00a0 Subsidies and tariffs always protect established capitalists from having to compete with new rivals, new products, and new ways of doing business.\u00a0 Such \u201canti-capitalist\u201d protection harms not only upstart entrepreneurs;
