On <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.peta.org\/archives\/2010\/01\/groundhog_day.php\">The PETA Files<\/a><\/strong>, they&#8217;ve proposed retiring him and replacing the living icon with a <strong>robotic groundhog<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-140522\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/images3.blisstree.com\/files\/2010\/01\/groundhog-day.jpg?resize=500%2C341\" alt=\"groundhog-day\" width=\"500\" height=\"341\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yes. At a time when so many animals are suffering, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.peta.org\/archives\/2010\/01\/groundhog_day.php\">PETA<\/a> wants us to feel sorry for the most lucky groundhog in the world. I love what commenter 4mula1 at The PETA Files replied, &#8220;&#8230;we will not be turning groundhog day into a trip to chuckycheese so everyone can see a robotic dancing critter.&#8221; Another commenter called Cody wrote, &#8220;All other groundhogs&#8230;I bet they like getting shot at in farmers fields and being roadkill.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>PETA loves publicity stunts, it seems. They&#8217;re realistic enough to realize that their plea for Phil&#8217;s retirement will only result in news stories. They&#8217;re either not being genuine, or they&#8217;re more off their rockers than I&#8217;ve thought in the past.
