{"id":643220,"date":"2010-01-25T22:02:13","date_gmt":"2010-01-26T03:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef0120a80eaf6f970b"},"modified":"2010-01-25T22:01:58","modified_gmt":"2010-01-26T03:01:58","slug":"man-pleads-guilty-in-l-a-to-cyber-attack-on-church-of-scientology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/643220","title":{"rendered":"Man pleads guilty in L.A. to cyber attack on Church of Scientology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Nebraska man agreed to plead guilty today in federal court in Los Angeles to participating in a 2008 cyber attack that shut down websites for the Church of Scientology, prosecutors said.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Brian Thomas Mettenbrink, 20, was part of a group that called itself &quot;Anonymous&quot; and planned the January attack as part of\u00a0a campaign against the church nationwide, according to the U.S. attorney&#8217;s office.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Mettenbrink, who is expected to enter his plea next week, was investigated by a federal task force based in Los Angeles, prosecutors said.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Mettenbrink admitted to downloading software from an\u00a0Anonymous message board that was used to bombard Scientology websites and prevent them from being accessed by viewers, according to the U.S. attorney.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>Prosecutors said a New Jersey man has been sentenced for participating in the attack.<br \/><\/br><br \/><\/br>&#8212; Robert J.
