While Republicans continue to celebrate the historic Senate victory of Scott Brown in Massachusetts, conservative leaders in Washington have begun their push to get the senator-elect certified before Democrats finalize their version of the healthcare reform bill.<\/p>\n
Brown, who represents the Republicans’ 41st vote in the Senate, breaking the Democrats’ filibuster-proof majority, has vowed to join the fight against the current piece of legislation being debated in Congress and "send it back to the drawing board."<\/p>\n
Although Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid yesterday confirming Brown’s victory in the special election, he cannot be seated until Massachusetts cities and towns certify the results, which they have 15 days to do, according to The Boston Herald<\/em>. <\/p>\n Meanwhile, Brown and other conservative leaders fear that Democrats will intentionally attempt to stall the senator’s certification in an effort to pass the healthcare bill before he gets to Washington. <\/p>\n "Pushing to let Scott Brown represent the people that elected him is a critical step in stopping this bill from becoming law," said Arizona Senator John McCain, quoted by CNN. <\/p>\n When questioned on the possibility of attempting to stall the seating of Scott Brown in order to pass the healthcare bill, President Obama stated that "the people of Massachusetts spoke. He’s got to be part of that process."
