The work, entitled &#8220;The Actor,&#8221; was left ripped after an art student lost her balance and tumbled into the canvas last week, officials at Manhattan&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/americas\/8478347.stm\">Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> said Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.popcrunch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Picasso-Painting-Ripped-500x666.jpg?resize=500%2C666\" alt=\"\" title=\"Picasso Painting Ripped\" width=\"500\" height=\"666\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-90189\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-90188\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Painted in the winter of 1904-1905, &#8220;The Actor&#8221; features an acrobat striking a dramatic pose against an abstract backdrop. The work hails from Picasso&#8217;s Rose Period &#8212; when the artist shifted from the downbeat tones of his Blue Period to warmer, more romantic hues.<\/p>\n<p>The painting was donated to The Met by automobile heiress Thelma Chrysler Foy in 1952.
