They demanded unhindered aid access, protection for civilians, and real accountability for unlawful killings of aid staff, not another round of nationally owned justice slogans.<\/p>\n

The timing overlaps with Human Rights Watch\u2019s warning that rising Tigray tensions are testing the African Union\u2019s early-warning machinery. HRW cites contested Pretoria terms, remobilization claims, and August fighting with artillery and drones near the Sudan border, plus continuing abuses against Tigrayans in Western Tigray and TPLF forced recruitment that includes minors. Geneva\u2019s 41-nation text and HRW\u2019s AU brief point at the same gap: monitoring language without enforcement, and dialogue branding without civilian safety.<\/p>\n
Abiy Ahmed\u2019s Prosperity Party wants credit for process while the Ethiopian government keeps OHCHR technical help at arm\u2019s length and treats transitional justice as optional. The regime in Addis Ababa can list forums. It cannot wish away a coalition statement that names dead aid workers and open conflict fronts in the same breath. If Pretoria was the peace deal, Geneva would not still be asking for the basics.<\/p>\n
