{"id":442314,"date":"2023-04-20T13:39:28","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T17:39:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/?p=442314"},"modified":"2023-04-20T13:39:28","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T17:39:28","slug":"unidentified-gunmen-ransack-ethiopia-orthodox-monastery-kidnap-staff-member-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/442314","title":{"rendered":"Unidentified gunmen ransack Ethiopia Orthodox monastery, kidnap staff member: Report\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unidentified gunmen ransacked an Ethiopia Orthodox Tewhado Church (E.O.T.C) monastery and also kidnapped a staff member, the online media outlet TIKVAH-Ethiopia reported on Wednesday evening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TIKVAH-Ethiopia reported the Sodere Felege-Selam Medhanealem monastery was attacked on Tuesday evening by around 50 gunmen who initially used explosives to break through the monastery\u2019s gate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sodere Felege-Selam Medhanealem monastery formed in the early 1970s is located 25 kilometers from Adama, a large city in Oromia region close to Ethiopia\u2019s capital, Addis Ababa. Adama is approximately 99kms southeast of Addis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TIKVAH-Ethiopia further reported the monastery\u2019s bookkeeper, Tesfa Desalegn was abducted and taken to an undisclosed location during the attack.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The attackers also set fire to various artifacts and sections of the monastery, as well as physically assaulted a number of faithful who were present during the attack, according to TKIVAH-Ethiopia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TKIVAH-Ethiopia also posted photos of the aftermath of the Monastery attack on its telegram page.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Federal and local government officials haven\u2019t yet commented on the attack.
