{"id":356904,"date":"2021-04-30T15:35:19","date_gmt":"2021-04-30T19:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/?p=356904"},"modified":"2021-05-01T02:08:49","modified_gmt":"2021-05-01T06:08:49","slug":"sudan-and-ethiopia-exchanged-gunfire-over-disputed-border-territory-after-months-of-silence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/356904","title":{"rendered":"Sudan and Ethiopia exchanged gunfire over disputed border territory after months of silence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan and Ethiopia on Friday exchanged gunfire in the disputed border territory which Sudan has taken control by force since November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in Menkoda, a small town located 70 kilometre east of the Ethio-Sudanese border, told \u00a0DW Amharic Service that Sudanese troops opened fire to the north Gonder Zone of Ethiopia at around 5:00 AM and burned down agricultural camps.<\/p>\n<p>The residents said the Sudanese force had used heavy guns too against Ethiopian troops for about four hours \u00a0until soldiers were deployed by the Ethiopian forces.<\/p>\n<p>The advancing Sudanese army was defended bravely by members of Ethiopian Defense Forces and local militia, Head of the Metema District Administration Fantahun Kiros was quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p>The Ethiopian government accused Sudanese troops of burning and looting the properties of local investors operating at the border areas. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan and Ethiopia on Friday exchanged gunfire in the disputed border territory which Sudan has taken control by force since November 2020.
