The piece sketched an ancient state whose modern politics run through federal regions drawn largely by identity. It placed the June Amhara crisis inside longer contests among Amhara, Oromo, Tigray, and other communities.

The explainer noted Abiy Ahmed’s 2018 rise, peace with Eritrea, and the release of prisoners, beside rising displacement and local violence. Readers were reminded that federal design, language policy, and control of regional security remain core disputes. Nation framed Ethiopia’s size and diversity as both strength and strain.

For East African audiences, the article served as a compact map of why a single weekend of assassinations could shake a whole neighbourhood of states. It stressed lasting divisions rather than one news spike.

Sources: Nation Africa

Ethiopia: Ancient land beset by long-running divisions nation.co.keKey facts about Africa’s second most populous nation riven by ethnic tensions.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

8

post-280122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ethiopian-news
https://i0.wp.com/mereja.com/index/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/amhara-simien-1280-1.jpg?fit=1280%2C720&ssl=1
["GET
