During Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed\u2019s visit to Qatar end of March 2019, he visited with hospitalized Ethiopian\u2019s requiring continuous medical care. Following this visit, the Qatar Government pledged to support the return of those patients back to Ethiopia, covering medical costs for up to a year so they continue their treatment among their families. Meron Mekonnen, a 38-year-old mother, has sustained a\u00a0carbon monoxide poisoning 8 years back at a hospital in Qatar before returning to Ethiopia and continuing her treatment at\u00a0St. Peter Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.<\/p>\n
Carbon Monoxide poisoning is\u00a0a very serious, potentially lethal, frequent, often overlooked, and often insufficiently treated medical emergency. Treatments for such poisoning at an acute level requires a well-equipped care unit which Ethiopian hospitals lack. Currently, Meron’s health status is critical.
