In that 2019 talk, head surgeon Dr. Begashaw Melese said Ethiopian doctors received low pay while they carried heavy clinical loads.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Begashaw said people with little training in health management often ran the system. He said doctors had left the country for years. He linked that exit to low pay, weak management, and political pressure under successive governments.<\/p>\n<p>He also said officials often used force against protesting physicians instead of negotiating with them.
