But according to the press rights group, Reporters without Borders; months after the appointment of Abiy Ahmed as the prime minister, there was no journalist who was being held in jail with relation to their work for the first time in 14 years.<\/p>\n
<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-274945\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?resize=780%2C313&ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"313\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?w=1170&ssl=1 1170w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?resize=800%2C321&ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?resize=768%2C309&ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?resize=1024%2C411&ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mereja.com\/index\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/000_18l78y.jpg?resize=640%2C257&ssl=1 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/p>\n
Last year, the prime minister made worldwide news when he released all journalists held in Ethiopian jails. The country also ended its block of over 260 websites and ban on media outlets forced to work in exile.
