{"id":261406,"date":"2019-01-16T04:32:16","date_gmt":"2019-01-16T09:32:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/?p=261406"},"modified":"2019-01-16T04:32:16","modified_gmt":"2019-01-16T09:32:16","slug":"olf-fighters-say-ethiopian-army-targets-them-with-helicopter-gunships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.com\/index\/261406","title":{"rendered":"OLF fighters say Ethiopian army targets them with helicopter gunships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rebels who returned to Ethiopia last year accused the army of targeting them with airstrikes after they called for the renegotiation of a peace deal with the government.<\/p>\n<p>The Oromo Liberation Front, led by Dawud Ibsa, condemned the alleged attacks in a western part of Ethiopia by \u201cairstrike and other methods.\u201d The helicopter raids at the weekend damaged buildings and forced people to flee to nearby forests, said Falmata Jamal, a resident in Oromia state\u2019s Gidami district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government has to stop the killing of innocent people without any precondition,\u201d the OLF said in a statement on its Facebook page, without giving a death toll. A spokesman for the Oromia regional government dismissed the claims as \u201cpropaganda\u201d and said the federal army was in the area \u201cto work on rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The local Addis Standard website reported Sunday that the army had conducted airstrikes targeting OLF training camps in the region, citing an unidentified member of the military. An army spokesman, Mohammed Tessema, declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Another Gidami resident, Jalata Tura, said by phone that he saw strikes by at least two helicopters.
