The African Union’s pledge to facilitate African travel across the continent is still far from over, but Ethiopia is taking a step in that direction.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of a Parliament session and describing the government’s legislative agenda, President Mulatu Teshome on Monday said that African nationals could obtain visas upon arrival in the country rather than asking them in advance.<\/p>\n

As part of an AU plan, African countries were supposed to remove the visa requirement for all African citizens by 2018.<\/p>\n

But to date, Seychelles is the only country where the visa waiver is open to all Africans – as well as to the citizens of each country – as has always been the case.<\/p>\n

A recent AU report revealed that Africans can travel without a visa in only 22% of other African countries.<\/p>\n
