This (great) news was also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ethsat.com\/2018\/06\/ethiopia-unblocks-264-websites-including-esat\/\">reported by ESAT<\/a>, a major Ethiopian media website that was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/explorer.ooni.io\/measurement\/20160817T192345Z_AS24757_vkmTFvmkOUzdotRJrOUrieRB5bqhrEUjem5G2ZnQqDbfRByV2U?input=http:%2F%2Fethsat.com\">blocked<\/a>\u00a0over the last years.<\/p>\n<p>Today,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ooni.torproject.org\/\">OONI<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessnow.org\/\">Access Now<\/a>\u00a0publish new research based on the testing of sites that were previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ooni.torproject.org\/post\/ethiopia-report\/#websites-blocked\">found to be blocked<\/a>, in an attempt to examine whether they have in fact been unblocked in recent days.<\/p>\n<p>We quite rarely hear of governments unblocking hundreds of websites in one go. This is also an important event given Ethiopia\u2019s political climate and the conditions that led to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ooni.torproject.org\/post\/ethiopia-report\/\">pervasive levels of internet censorship<\/a>.
