That is the kind of Ethiopia I love. 70,000 people peacefully supporting their team without any incident of hooliganism and bullying. It is unheard of. This is a sign of absolute civility and high moral ground. Proud to be Ethiopian. Having said that, we have to give credit where credit is due. The government has done a good job building stadiums in many parts of the country. I only wish they had included the proposed roof. But I hope it will happen sometime in the future.

This wonderful stadium should have been built in Jigjiga not Bahir Dar which has much less population than Jigjiga. I'm not sure what Abdi iley was doing when the Government was planning this project.

He could have argued Jigjiga is far bigger city and deserves big stadium compared to Bahir Dar.

Nevertheless now that Jigjiga is oil-gas rich region, we should finance a much bigger and more modern stadium that hosts not only Woleye but Somali Republic's national team.

Please [email protected]! Bahr Dar is one of the best and modern cities. You can't compare Bahr Dar with Jigjiga. That is laughable. And honestly Somalis are not into football. Let alone Jigjiga even Mogadishu will not fill such big stadium. Dude, we know Somalis.

Stadiums are built by local governments and not by the Fed so if Abdi Iley wanted such a Stadium he should have done it instead of enriching himself and his cronies.

My friend once again you proved how Amhara are one of the least educated folks in the region. Jigjiga is very prosperous and fast growing city with some of its facilities much superior than Bahir Dar including its airport. Can you rebuttal that my friend?

Also the neighbouring Somali Republic had stadiums that can accomodate 70,000 people in 1976 and you talking about 2018.

It shows the level of ignorance. Besides there are countless Somalis who play professional football across Europe. How many Amhara can you name? Even in Ethiopian football team they are a minority but as per usual they want to take all the credit.

I also doubt this stadium was financed by the bankrupt Amhara kilil----we all know Amhara is one of the poorest, most issues including healthcare, lack of businesses and services apart from what others own.

So my friend I will get back to you on the stadium finances. I am confident it was the EPRDF government. I heard you guys cry about the Mekelle stadium.

Indeed it was financed by the Federal Government and once again Amhara myth and fairytale stories are destroyed in their paths with legit sources, information and facts.
Ethiopia’s stadium investments include $110m for a new 60,000 capacity National Stadium in Ababa due to be completed in June 2018; 45,000 seats Mekelle Stadium at $20m (85% completed); 80,000 seats Adama Stadium at over $80m; 70,000 seats Dire Dawa Stadium at $50m; 56,000 seats Harar Stadium at $70m and 30,000 seats Gambella Stadium at $20m.

Some are already completed - Woldia Stadium with 25,155 seats at $25m was built by businessman Sheik Mohammed Al-Amoudi; Hawasa Stadium with 40,000 seats at $25m and Bahir Dar Stadium 53,000 seats at over $25m.

Until the next education lesson, take care. I'm happy that my Dire got 70,000 seats compared to Bahir Dar's 53,000 and not 60,000---big difference.

Info & Hawdien,
You fools, you remind me of my middle school years when kids compared their number of pants, shoes and note books. Both cities deserve a stadium that is appropriate to their respective population size and marketability. The picture clearly tells how Bahir Darians love soccer and would spend their savings to be seated in their stadium. If “Somali Republics” have already old stadiums that accommodate more people, so be it and good for you. What is the basis of your argument? Grow up kids.

“...Stadiums are built by local governments and not by the Fed...”

Really? So, why are Amharas complaining that TPLF channeled all the money into Tigray and didn’t build a Stadium in Gondar or Dessie?

They were not complaining against TPLF on that specific incident but against ANDM because ANDM contributed millions of Birr for the construction of the Mekele Stadium. Be specific bro. At that time Bahir Dar had already the current stadium but Mekele didn't have one.

Bahir Dar is very beautiful. I do love to holiday there soon. InshaAllah and go to Jumma prayer in that splendid mosque. KUDOS to Gojjamees.

Don't take things I say to heart suckers. This is just a forum, we all joke around and push each others' but.tons.

The Ras is always fond of Bahir Dar. It has grown massively within 3-4 years.

Someone update me how did this happen?
